The psychology of human behavior has been an area of interest for me and I am always curious to know and understand more about my behavior, why I act the way I do and why other people act the way they do as well. This is a social and mental health issue and a part of a holistic lifestyle.
Justine Brown, the co-founder of Ideapod, wrote about some special personality traits that people who like being alone exhibit. He wrote that just because a person likes being alone, does not mean the person is lonely, depressed or full of anxiety.
I personally feel that Justine wrote this article about me, as it outrightly describes pretty much who I am as a person. I am a person with the mixed personalities of an introvert and extrovert, and being alone more often than not, has been a resounding part of my behavior.
Are you the type that enjoys time alone all by yourself, so much so that you will prefer to travel alone, go out for dinner or lunch, binge-watch, take a walk, all alone by yourself? Well, if so, you are not alone in this.
Justine wrote that people who love to spend time alone, usually have to explain themselves to others why they do so as if it goes against a societal expectation of what is normal and what is not. Below are some qualities Justine discovered, that people with this personality trait have.
People that Like Being Alone are:
1. Extremely Loyal
They don’t usually have a wide social circle, and if they do, you will rarely find them in large social groups or hangouts. They instead seek out meaningful and trustworthy friends who they feel comfortable to welcome into their space and share details of their life with. Such people are assuredly going to be there for you come rain come shine and through thick and thin.
2. They are Open to New Ideas
It may surprise you to know that just because they cherish their quiet time and space, does not mean they won’t do something new and exciting. They too can be spontaneous, especially with people they feel comfortable with.
3. They Have a Level Head
They spend so much quality time on their own. This enables them to navigate and ruminate on positive things, and contemplate situations and problems. They really tap into who they are and what they want. They have a strong sense of self and confidence that radiates from within. When they are feeling stressed or burdened by challenges, they spend time alone to recharge instead of filling their day with distractions or some other means of escapism.
4. They Are Comfortable with Their Own Thoughts
There are people who cannot stand to be alone with their own thoughts. People who like to spend time alone, particularly in the quiet, display a clear conscience and do not struggle with their inner thoughts. While we obviously can have down days, they tend to be able to navigate themselves out of any situation.
5. They Understand The Value of Time: Both Yours and Theirs
People who spend time alone, understand, appreciate and value time. They put a high priority in making that time available for them to function at their highest level and best self. So when you are giving your time, they understand what you’ve given up for them. They have a deep sense of making sure not to waste your time or to spend time with people who are wasting theirs.
6. They Have Strong But Healthy Boundaries
The time spent by this type of person alone gives them the space to think about what works for them and what doesn’t, and how to properly communicate this. They exercise their right to communicate these in a really healthy and clear manner.
So, people with this personality trait, are not terrible people at all. Based on these qualities that such people possess, it will be accurate to say that having such a personality trait is not negative at all. If you have friends with this personality trait, I hope you will understand them better now and appreciate them just the way they are.
